Theatr Prysor, arts and performance

Manon Prysor is Creative Director for Theatr Prysor and a professional actress and presenter. She specialises in performance, storytelling, creative workshops, and community collaborative celebratory happenings.

Recent work includes link coordinator ‘Lleu’ community project, and community outreach partner for Creating Sunshine project funded through the Connect and Flourish grant by the Arts Council of Wales. Within these roles she co-ordinated multi-disciplinary creative workshops with the communities in Bangor, Caernarfon, Pen Llŷn and Holyhead. Working in partnership with other artists these workshops led to large scale lantern parades, music, performance, street theatre and circus.

We were looking for a storyteller that could help us deliver a Stories from the Archives project and we struck lucky with Manon Prysor. She was able to deliver bilingual high quality storytelling sessions with activities. As an actress she is able to incorporate her amazing acting abilities bringing the stories to life and making each session both fun and educational. We have worked with Manon for three years and have seen an increase in take up of our outreach offer particularly with schools and community groups.

Theatre Prysor worked intensely with the communities of Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr culminating in the first ever Wild ponies festival in North Wales. The project came together to celebrate community, landscape, the Welsh language and local heritage.Dartmoor and Exmoor celebrate their ponies, and communities in Europe have festivals celebrating animals and tradition. We should also celebrate our unique wild ponies on the Carneddau. By celebrating the living tradition of the annual gathering of the ponies we re-enforce the relationship between farmers and the landscape, and bring the ancient spirit of the mountains down in to the towns.

A big welcome to local artist Rachel Evans to our community project Llais y Lle. She has learnt Welsh and works bilingually. I asked her what she liked about working in Welsh and what the Llais y Lle project meant to her. She said "When researching for a new project I enjoy discovering new vocabulary, such as names of birds, that I may not otherwise have come across. I do get a bit nervous before delivering a session in Welsh and always start by explaining that I'm a learner and that I will make mistakes and may slip into English if I get stuck. Working with kids is wonderful because they are very accepting of whatever level you are at".
